Hammer Auctions conducts online and onsite auctions, with the bidding process varying depending on the type of auction.
For online auctions, each lot will have its own bidding period and bidding instructions. Buyers should familiarise themselves with the auction platform and understand the current bid, bidding increments and closing time before placing a bid.
Before you bid:
- Read the lot description carefully.
- Review all available photographs and information.
- Check the auction Terms & Conditions.
- Inspect the item where an inspection opportunity is provided.
- Make sure you understand any buyer's premium, GST or other applicable charges.
- Consider transport and collection requirements.
- Make sure you are comfortable with your maximum bid before bidding.
Once a bid is placed, it may be binding.
Where possible, Hammer Auctions provides buyers with an opportunity to inspect assets before bidding.
We strongly recommend inspecting items personally, or arranging for someone you trust to inspect them on your behalf.
Inspection allows you to assess the item's:
- Condition
- Operation
- Age
- Wear and tear
- Quality
- Accessories and attachments
- General suitability for your intended use
Photographs and descriptions are provided as a guide only and may not show every defect, mark, fault or condition issue.
Buyers are responsible for satisfying themselves as to the condition and suitability of any item before bidding.
Inspection times and locations will be listed in the relevant auction information.
For certain onsite auctions, Hammer Auctions may offer an absentee bidding service for buyers who are unable to attend in person.
[TO CONFIRM — whether Hammer will offer absentee bidding and the process/form.]
If available, absentee bidders will need to provide their details, identify the relevant lot and nominate their maximum bid before the applicable deadline.
The auctioneer may bid on your behalf in accordance with the auction conditions.
A Buyer's Premium may apply to purchases made through Hammer Auctions.
Where applicable, the Buyer's Premium will be clearly identified in the relevant auction information and/or catalogue.
The premium is an additional charge calculated on the purchase price and forms part of the total amount payable by the successful buyer.
Always check the specific auction Terms & Conditions before bidding.
GST treatment can vary depending on the asset and the seller.
The relevant auction listing or catalogue will identify whether GST applies and whether displayed bids are GST inclusive or exclusive, where applicable.
Buyers should carefully review the GST information provided for each auction before bidding.
If you are the successful bidder, you will be notified and provided with an invoice or payment instructions.
Your invoice will set out the amount payable, including any applicable:
- Purchase price
- Buyer's Premium
- GST
- Other applicable fees or charges
Please ensure payment is made within the timeframe specified for the relevant auction.
Payment methods and payment deadlines may vary between auctions.
Accepted payment methods will be outlined in the relevant auction information or invoice.
[TO CONFIRM — Hammer's accepted payment methods and standard payment deadline.]
Hammer Auctions reserves the right to require payment in cleared funds before goods are released.
Successful buyers are responsible for collecting or arranging the collection of their purchases within the timeframe specified for the relevant auction.
Collection details, including:
- Collection address
- Available dates and times
- Loading facilities
- Forklift availability
- Access requirements
- Transport arrangements
will be provided with the relevant auction information.
Transport
Buyers are responsible for arranging transport unless otherwise stated.
For large machinery, vehicles, agricultural equipment and other oversized assets, buyers should consider transport requirements before bidding.
If you are using a transport company or third party to collect your purchase, you may be required to provide them with proof of payment or other collection authorisation.
Some lots may contain multiple items.
Where a lot contains more than one item, the auction listing will explain how the lot is being sold — for example, per item, per unit or as a complete lot.
Buyers should carefully read the lot description and bidding instructions before placing a bid.
If bidding does not reach the seller's reserve or required price, a lot may be passed in or referred.
Where applicable, the highest bidder may be contacted or given an opportunity to negotiate with the seller.
A referred or passed-in bid does not automatically mean the bidder has purchased the item.
Hammer Auctions will advise buyers of the outcome where appropriate.
Auction catalogues and individual lot listings provide important information about the assets being offered.
Before bidding, buyers should review:
- Lot descriptions
- Photographs
- Specifications
- Location
- Inspection details
- Auction closing time
- GST information
- Buyer's Premium
- Collection requirements
- Special conditions
Descriptions and photographs are provided as a guide only.
Buyers should make their own enquiries and inspections before bidding.
Hammer Auctions makes every effort to provide accurate descriptions and information supplied by sellers. However, buyers must satisfy themselves as to the condition, authenticity, suitability and value of any asset before bidding.
Unless specifically stated otherwise, assets are generally sold as-is, where-is, subject to the applicable auction Terms & Conditions.
Buyers should not rely solely on photographs or descriptions when deciding whether to bid.
If you have any doubts, ask questions or arrange an inspection before placing your bid.
Machinery, plant, vehicles, agricultural equipment and other assets may present safety risks.
Buyers are responsible for ensuring that any asset they purchase is:
- Suitable for its intended purpose;
- Safe to operate;
- Properly inspected where required;
- Compliant with applicable laws and regulations; and
- Suitable for use in their particular workplace or environment.
Where machinery or plant is purchased for workplace use, buyers should obtain appropriate professional advice and inspection before putting the equipment into service.
Hammer Auctions is not responsible for determining whether purchased equipment is suitable or safe for a buyer's particular application unless expressly stated otherwise.
Buying at auction can be a great way to find quality equipment, machinery and vehicles at competitive prices.
